Solo Dev Diary: The Journey of Making Croco Farm – Idle Tycoon

 Hey everyone,

I'm a solo game developer, and today I want to share the story behind my latest project, which just launched in Open Beta: Croco Farm: Idle Tycoon.

The Initial Idea

I've always loved the idle/tycoon genre because of its chill nature — you can play for a few minutes and still feel a sense of progress. But I wanted to add something different. Instead of regular farmers, why not have crocodiles in overalls and straw hats running the farm? It sounded a bit quirky at first, but it ended up giving the game a really cute and unique vibe.

Core Gameplay

  • Plant crops and harvest golden wheat
  • Raise livestock: chickens, pigs, cows, and more
  • Hire and upgrade your team of "croco workers"
  • Earn idle income automatically, even while offline
  • Use power-ups like 2x Income to speed up your farm's growth

The goal was to keep the experience simple and accessible for all ages, playable even without a constant internet connection.

Developing Solo

Working alone means I handle everything myself — concept, art direction, programming, economy balancing, and finally shipping the game to Google Play. The hardest part was balancing the in-game economy: making sure players always feel like they're "just about to unlock something exciting" without the game feeling overwhelming or repetitive.

Where things stand now

The game is currently in Open Beta on Google Play. I'm actively fixing bugs and optimizing performance based on early player feedback.

Thanks so much for supporting my indie dev journey. If you have any feedback on the gameplay or art style, feel free to drop a comment — as a solo dev, every bit of feedback means a lot!
